One of Australia’s best-known barbershop quartets will headline a one night only concert “This is the Moment” in Perth on Saturday 12 May at 7.30pm.
Last year Benchmark shot to fame following appearances on the television show “Australia’s Got Talent”. Described by the judges as ‘legends’ the lively quartet brought the audience to their feet and the judges to tears on grand final night. Benchmark’s glorious full, four-part harmonies in the a-cappella (without additional instruments) style prompted judge Dannii Minogue to comment that their “harmonies sounded like they were broadcast direct from another era”.
During the competition the true spirit of Aussie mateship came to the fore when bass vocalist Tom Percy was diagnosed with cancer for the second time. “Dealing with the effects of radiotherapy treatment throughout the performances was a challenge,” said Tom. He said having his fellow Benchmark singers, Paul Roussell, Derek Cosburn and Ray Smyth, alongside him helped him through. “They were like the brothers I never knew I had,” he said. Benchmark continues to entertain audiences around the nation with a range of melodies from toe-tapping up-tunes to heart-rending ballads. Perth audiences will be treated to their harmonious renditions of This is the Moment, Alexander’s Ragtime Band, and I’ve Been Working On The Railroad.
Joining Benchmark for this one-off concert will be Australian Champion quartets, Alliance and HiJinx and Australian Champion choruses Vocal Evolution and Perth Harmony Chorus.
Funds raised from the performance will enable Alliance Quartet to represent Australia at International contest in Portland, USA this July.
This joyful concert will showcase the very best of Australian barbershop and commences at 7.30pm at the John Inverarity Music and Drama Centre, Hale School, Hale Road, Wembley Downs.
Prices are: adults $39.90 and pensioners/students $29.90.
