History

Directed by Lionel Pierson since 2012, Vocal Evolution is a world-class male vocal harmony chorus based in Perth, Western Australia that has been wowing audiences since 2002.

The group was started by a bunch of ordinary guys who wanted to produce an extraordinary sound. True to their name, the chorus has grown musically and artistically to become widely recognized as one of Australia’s best vocal harmony groups.

In 2009, Vocal Evolution was awarded the gold medal at the Barbershop Harmony Australia (BHA) National Open Chorus Contest in Hobart, Tasmania. With this title came the invitation to represent Australia at International competition and so in July 2011 the boys headed to the USA. Competing against some of the very best choruses in the world Vocal Evolution achieved an “A-level” score of 81, the highest ever by an Australian chorus, and a ranking of #19 in the world. Later that year they travelled to Brisbane and claimed their second BHA National Open Chorus Championship and their first Pan Pacific title.

The success in Brisbane entitled the Chorus to again represent Australia on the international stage, this time in Toronto in July 2013, were they achieved a score of 81.8 and secured the position of #14 in the international ranking.  In October of the same year the Chorus took to the National contest stage once more, this time in their home town of Perth, and achieved a score of 82.7 and claimed the Australian Gold Medal for a third consecutive time.
