Shameem Taheri-Lee
At 22, Shameem has been performing professionally since 2004 and is already a familiar name on the Perth jazz scene. She recently completed a Bachelor of Music in jazz composition at the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts (WAAPA), where she was awarded the Hawaiian Award for being the top student in her course. In 2009, she was selected as a finalist for the prestigious James Morrison “Generations in Jazz” Vocal Scholarship. Shameem recently released her EP, “Universe for Afternoon Tea.”
“Some performers need the audience to listen long and carefully before anyone gets that there is something good going on. With Shameem you'd have to be locked in a lead-lined room to miss this lady's sparkle. Her charisma and sheer energy on stage command attention and the listener is rewarded with a swinging, soulful sound – this is what jazz is all about.” – James Morrison
Three Men and a Tenor
3 Men & A Tenor is an a cappella quartet based in Perth. They formed in early 2007 and have gone on to become the national champion youth quartet. 3MAAT, as they have come to be done known, sing a wide range of music: originally born into the barbershop art form, they have gone on to diversify into jazz, gospel, contemporary, folk and even some pop. All these styles come together with their youthful energy and stunning four part harmony to create a unique and entertaining group.
Nexus
Alex, Ali, Gordon and Ash formed Nexus in 2005 and quickly went on to competitive success achieving gold in the AAMBS Western Region Youth Quartet contest of that year. In 2009 Nexus placed fourth in the National Open Quartet Contest held in Hobart, Tasmania and were recently awarded the gold medal in the Open Quartet section of the AAMBS Western Region Quartet Contest. They have become one of Perth's favourite quartets due to their free-flowing style, quirky humour as well as their ability to move an audience with hear-felt ballads. From barbershop harmony to Britney Spears, Nexus can do it all!
